VALUE PROPOSITION

Community organizations are generally very good and very passionate about meeting a particular need, however they often struggle to access funding and a lot of time, effort and overhead are wasted in their efforts to source funding.

Community organizations also do not always have the skill to manage resources, and resources that may be available within a community, are not always optimally utilized by the various community organizations working within a particular area.

Corporate investors on the other hand, struggle to identify suitable investment opportunities within the not for profit sector and often have a concern as to whether the funds invested, are actually being optimally used to achieve the stated objectives of the organisations where the investment was made.

There is also often a concern that a community organization may become overly dependent on the corporate investor, and that there is no exit strategy in place once a commitment to invest has been made. The overhead cost of running a Social Economic Development programme also often impedes the ability of a corporate donor to make a meaningful investment.

The Gatekeeper Foundation, working in collaboration with community development organizations, which have the necessary expertise and skills, is in a position to change this.

The Gatekeeper Foundation receives funding from corporate investors and, in collaboration with each investor, determines the core sector into which the investment is to be made. The funds are then utilized to build capacity and strengthen community organizations within such core sector, with a view to such organization becoming self-sustaining or self-funded after a period of time.

The Gatekeeper Foundation also ensures legal compliance with regard to the Non-Profit Organisations Act, 1997, its Codes of Good Practice and any other laws that may be applicable, and can assist organizations with the reporting required in terms of the Non-Profit Organisations Act, 1997.

Funds invested are administered through the trust account of the Gatekeeper Foundation attorneys and is regulated in terms of the Attorneys Act.

In addition thereto, the attorneys trust account is audited on an annual basis, at no expense to either funders or the selected NPO's.

The Gatekeeper Foundation also runs regular workshops, which gives organisations the opportunity to share best practices and collaborate.
